NEWLY MARRIED Rema Namakula has hit the 1 million likes landmark becoming just the fourth local musician to reach milestone.
The female star joins only Juliana Kanyomozi, Bobi Wine and former lover Eddie Kenzo in the exclusive Uganda Musicians’ club with over 1 million.
Rema- who has dominated local news since her marriage to Dr. Hamza Ssebunya- has seen her likes grow by more than half.
She now has over 1, 004, 063 likes with Bobi commanding 1, 035, 423.
Juliana is in second position with 1, 137, 540 while Kenzo leads the pack with 1, 141, 584 as of Tuesday, 15th October.
Big names Jose Chameleone and Bebe Cool are a distant 577, 706 and 642, 612 respectively, meaning she almost doubles them.
And this is all thanks to the recent developments in the music industry.
Rema joined the music scene sometime back. During her Senior 6 vacation, she began singing karaoke. Later, she became a back-up singer to another Ugandan female musician Halima Namakula, who became her mentor.
She continued her music career as a back up artist for Ugandan musician Bebe Cool in Gagamel, Bebe Cool’s recording group.
In 2013, Bebe Cool was watching television when he saw Rema talking about launching a solo album, which Bebe Cool didn’t know about. So he fired her and she went solo.
In 2013 she released Oli wange which was written by Nince Henry which made her popular in the music industry of Uganda.
In 2016, Rema Namakula was selected to represent Uganda at the fourth season of Coke Studio Africa 2016. Other Ugandan recording artists selected included Lydia Jazmine, Eddie Kenzo and Radio and Weasel.
But it’s her private life, not her music, that has seen her Facebook page hit new heights.
