Entrepreneur and entertainer Mr. Aliaune Akon Thiam aka Akon has completed a two-day excursion of some of Uganda’s best wild touristic attraction sites, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable forest.
Akon who was astounded at how uniquely beautiful Uganda is and expressed how moved he is at the simplicity and hospitality of Ugandans.
Thiam who is now Uganda’s International Envoy for Tourism and Culture vowed to do everything in his power to turn route 256 as the tourism destination of choice.
According to the Senior presidential advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Amb. Abbey Walusimbi, Uganda couldn’t have made a better choice for such an envoy.
Walusimbi adds that through his office, many of the African Americans and Ugandans in Diaspora will always be welcomed and he is ready to accord each person that seeks his help equal attention.
The trade and Investment officer in the office of the Senior presidential advisor on Diaspora affairs Isaac Kigozi who lived in the USA for the greater part of his life, says that “My country deserves the best and we are committed to bring in many people like Akon to Uganda for the same reasons he is here.”
Despite hiking on a muddy day, Akon was amazed by the rare opportunity he got to get an up-close and personal shot with the Gorillas, he excitedly referred to himself as “The Papa of Gorillas” after his Wife Rozina Negusei wished she could adopt the baby Gorilla she had seen.
Akon couldn’t agree more with Winston Churchills’ definition of Uganda as the Pearl of Africa.
The business man in him has promised to build highly luxurious lodges/ accommodations in different tourism development areas of Uganda as a way to add value to the industry that he is more than ready to sell wherever he goes.
“This experience was amazing. With all that is going on around the world with the pandemic getting a chance to get into nature, air it all out and escape from the madness just to see our cousins is an experience like no other.”
Isaac Kigozi added that “God has made us energy beings and made us his vicegerents on earth in order to preserve his creation in the best way possible.
With the support of H.E. President Museveni, the office of the Senior presidential advisor on Diaspora affairs is not just committed to bringing home our Diaspora and other interested parties for investment, but is dedicated to work with everyone and every organization that is out to preserve nature.”
Ambassador Walusimbi said that this is just the beginning of many projects his office is working on which include but are not limited to engaging all stakeholders and the powers that “Be” to work toward making Uganda the most favorable investment hub both just for Nationals but for everyone around the world who is ready to tap into the Ugandan Investment narrative”.
Akon’s visit follows a recent visit of his wife Ms. Rozina to Uganda earlier this year in January.
The couple met President Yoweri Museveni and discussed different investment ventures that can be undertaken.
Museveni and Akon discussed different investment opportunities in various sectors of Energy, Tourism, Infrastructure development to mention but a few.
In 2018, Akon announced plans to establish a $6 billion futuristic Pan-African smart city in Senegal dubbed “Akon City”. Supported by the Senegalese Government, the 800-hectare solar-powered city will feature shopping malls music studios, tourist resorts among other attractions.
Akon has visited a number of Tourist sites and Religious institutions during his stay in Uganda.
