On April 19th 2020, President Yoweri Museveni, during his national address, called upon able Ugandans and companies to donate to the Covid-19 taskforce in order to help in the intense fight against the pandemic.
Since then, various Ugandans have adhered to the president’s call and have been donating massively.
Today, Ankole Coffee Producers Coop Union (ACPCU Ltd), one of the best and biggest cooperatives that exports very high quality coffee volumes, made a contribution of Shs15 million to the National Covid-29 Taskforce.
The cooperative- based in Kabwohe, Sheema district- has also donated Shs12 million to 11 districts of Greater Ankole in western Uganda.
The districts are; Sheema which has been given Shs2 million to help in the fight against thekiller pandemic.
Other districts which have each received Shs1 million each from ACPCU Ltd are; Ibanda, Kazo, Kiruhura, Mbarara, Ntungamo, Bushenyi, Rwampara, Rubirizi, Mitooma and Buhweju.
The union has also donated 50 packets of coffee mainly for medical workers on the frontline at the Ministry of Health and the various quarantine centres plus the heroes at tge Virus research institute.
Speaking today during the handover ceremony, ACPCU General Manager John Nuwagaba said help should mainly focus on aiding women in labour in the various districts.
He also pledged to continue buying coffee in order to support households in this time of need.
He further urged farmers to ensure good quality coffee in order to remain afloat as economies world over continue to struggle.
