Music legend Joseph Mayanja, better known as Jose Chameleone, has called upon the opposition to unite as one block as many continue to see him as an NRM mole.
The singing star’s defection to Democratic Party has been received with mixed feelings with majority dismissing the move as an NRM move to disorganize opposition.
The Ba Yuda singer played a key mobilisation role for president Yoweri Museveni during the 2016 presidential elections.
He was one of the star musicians who composed Museveni’s campaign anthem, Tubonga Naawe.
The singer claims he was in it for the money.
No one seems to believe him.
The likes of Mukono Municipality legislator Hon Betty Nambooze publicly refused to accept Chameleone as one of them.
Other DP members like Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago have distanced themselves from the music star.
Generally there’s no excitement around Chameleone joining opposition like there was when, for example, Bobi Wine joined opposition politics.
For the last few days, Chameleone has been calling uponopposition to give him a chance.
This morning he took to his Facebook page to rally for unity.
“Each of us alone is worth nothing. United we stand Divided we fall!! When we never lose focus on destiny we shall get there,” the singer wrote.
However many seemed unimpressed with many accusing him of being a Museveni mole.
One wrote: “And you fool people to this extent through your comedy! Yet you are a full NRM man!! Lord have mercy, we don’t want to deal with people of this nature. May God bless the incoming 10th president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert.
Come 2021 Bobi is my only president who will liberate our country from the hands of the juntas like Chameleone.”
Another added: “Have we lost hope to an extent of accepting a Chameleone Lord Mayor as an option?? Stopping him should be our Patriotic DUTY.”
Over the weekend, Bobi Wine said Chameleone still has a lot to do to convince the masses he had truly joined opposition.
Opposition stalwarts like Kizza Besigye, Mugisha Muntu among others have not welcomed the music star to the opposition as is the norm whenever a big personality crosses.
