Angella Vivienne Chebet, wife of Sulaiman Kabangala Mbuga, also SK Mbuga, could be extradited to Sweden after Interpol took over her case.
Chebet is currently detained at Katwe Police in Kampala on cases of fraud. She is wanted in Sweden on a case of defrauding 53m Krona (about Shs20.9billion) from her then Swedish boyfriend Sten Heinsoo.
She was arrested on Thursday evening. Her detention comes a week after her husband, SK Mbuga, was extradited to Sweden enroute Denmark from Dubai.
“She is being held on a case of money laundering but the details can be obtained from CID headquarters in Kibuli,” Police mouthpiece Patrick Onyango said yesterday.
Sources within the police told Saturday Monitor that Ms Chebet was arrested with authorityfrom the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in Kibuli over a case where she allegedly defrauded someone.
“Yes she was arrested and brought here but as far as I’m concerned, we are only keeping her for the night. She will be taken to Kibuli where the case is being investigated,” a police source that declined to be named told Saturday Monitor.
Xclusive UG can confirm that Interpol has taken over the case, and they are seriously looking into the fraud allegations and how to handle it.
Uganda and Sweden do not have an extradition treaty and Interpol is now said to be consulting on how best to go about this.
Chebet hubby Mbuga was arrested in the United Arab Emirates locked up at the Awiir Central jail in Dubai, a port city on the Persian Gulf, over fraud involving Dubai and Oman businessmen.
Last week he was extradited to Sweden where he faces another fraud case in involving $2.6m (about Shs9.5b) in a gold deal gone bad.
