Controversial Monitor journalist Chris Obore has opened a war against singer Angella Katatumba accusing her of double standards.
For years Katatumba has fronted charity as her ‘thing’ in the music industry. She has formed various charity organizations including the For You Gulu project. With these NGOs, she has painted a picture of a holier personality whose main role is to provide to the needy.
However recently Katatumba was awarded shs50 million by court after an NGO used her song in one of itscampaigns. And this is where Obore comes in.
He ranted on facebook: “Angella Katatumba is a musician who has been riding on the wheel of deceit that she is dedicated to charity. Her music career is partly built on that pretense of charity. How come the same charitable musician sued Anti-corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) and got an award of Shs50million? Accu used her song on a campaign urging Ugandans to preserve Namanve forest reserve which was being grabbed. It was not a personal campaign. Does Angela believe in preserving our Green? If she is charitable, why ask for Shs50million from a nonprofit NGO that used your song for public good?”
However a section of people was quick to remind Obore that intellectual property/copyright must at all times be respected.
