Ugandan socialite turned businessman David Kazoora Junior was this week arrested in Rwanda for fraud and tax evasion, Xclusive UG understands.
Kazoora handed himself to Rwanda law enforcers on Thursday evening after Rwanda police threatened to issue an international arrest warrant.
JK, as he is commonly known, under his Buddies Production has been doing promotional work with Airtel Rwanda. The Rwanda Airtel country manager, Marceellin Paluku endorsed JK to film Biharebuje promotion throughout Rwanda, a promotion worth hundreds of millions of shillings.
In the promotion Airtel required customers to load airtime to enter the draw. Lucky customers in turn would win laptops, cows and other prizes with the grand prize being a two storied house. Kazoora was in chargeof overseeing the whole project and earned real big money after getting a Rwandan partner to set up Buddies Production in Kachiru Rwanda. However it is said that as he carried out his operations, he evaded taxes and his company was found to be fraudulent.
When he was summoned to police in Rwanda some months back to explain himself, he took off and returned to Uganda.
We are told that Airtel Uganda also advised him to report to Rwanda since he is in charge of the Bifuna Kilalu promotion here in Uganda.
Airtel could not risk tarnishing its name.
Our sources in Kigali tell us that Kazoora is currently detained at Kachiru Police Station, and could appear in court next week.
When contacted Rwanda Police spokesperson claimed he is not aware of the case. But sources insist Kazoora is in jail.
