Nile Broadcasting Service (NBS) has overtaken NTV Uganda in a research just seen by Xclusive. The survey conducted by the reputable Major Media company this month sees the Kamwokya based station also closing the gap on Bukedde TV which has enjoyed dominance for at least 30 months in Kampala.
At number one in the survey is Bukedde, followed by NBS and NTV in third. Seasoned Media Consultant and Researcher Joel Isabirye told us that he was surprised by the jump of NBS although he believed that hard work accounts for most of these things in media. “I know NBS has been doing a lot of hard work lately. They are strong on all fronts. On air, On-line, Off-line and the team seems very committed and well managed to do what they are doing. Sky may be the limit for them.” Asked about NTV’s fall, Isabirye said “it is hard to tell but NTV is a strong brand. It could be some changes not yet well received in the public. They need to be given time.” The TV market is ferocious in Uganda. Previously big name stations like WBS, Record and Top have all of a sudden fallen off over the last few years.
Meanwhile a source tells us that Nation Media, the owners of NTV, have commissioned a twelve man team to investigate NTV dealings. Four of the twelve are already in the country to audit the Serena Conference Centre based station.
