Ugandan Philip Besiimire is the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN South Sudan. He has since been the acting CEO of Swazi MTN since around 2010 where he started as the Marketing Manager.
Prior to that he was the Marketing Manager MTN Uganda. It is not clear why he has been moved to South Sudan but one section of people believes that ever since he was appointed CEO in Swazi on 16 January 2010, the Swazi Labor Organiation arguedthat if foreigners went to Swaziland to impart skills, there should be a process for locals to take over.
In fact National newspapers, Swazi Times and Observer were full of stories questioning the decision to appoint Besiimire. This group of people thinks he has therefore been transferred to kill pressure on him.
However another section believes he has served with distinction and he is being prepared to come and takeover Uganda, a much larger market. Besiimire rose through the ranks in MTN Uganda in both the communications and marketing department before shipping out down south. He started work in General Salve Kiir’s Sudan on Friday.
