The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has released a list of companies certified to manufacture sanitizers as of 1st April 2020.

This is aimed at protecting consumers from buying sanitizers that do not comply with standards and harmful to their health, in the wake of COVID-19.

 

UNBS appealed to the public NOT TO BUY the 15 brands listed below because they FAILED the laboratory tests regarding the alcohol content (min 60% min v/v), pH: 6-8 and Bactericidal efficacy, and are thus not certified by UNBS.

They are; Lovillea Gelly Cologne Hand Sanitizer, Blue++ King Hand Sanitizer – Aloe, Yoza Hand Sanitizer; Strawberry, Oh So Heavenly Crème Oil, Steinfect Instant Hand Sanitizer, Roxy Hand Sanitizer, Serene Instant Hand Sanitizer, Mimi Hand Sanitizer Gel, LaFresh Instant Hand Sanitizer, Quick Flash Instant hand sanitizer, Afro Royal instant hand sanitizer gel, Focus Instant hand sanitizer, Tuku instant hand sanitizer,

Cal Stat Plus instant hand sanitizer.

UNBS urged the public to report presence of the above 15 brands on the market using UNBS toll free line 0800 133 133, to enable the enforcement team to put them off the market.

UNBS said the companies below are the only legitimate ones.

These include;

1. Saraya Manufacturing Uganda Limited

2. Geno-Hitech Uganda Limited

3. Dei Natural Products International Limited

4. Rene Industries Limited

5. Premier Distilleries Limited

6. Kenlon Industries Limited

7. Hoima Sugar Limited

8. Akhtabut Investments Limited

9. Armour Group Limited

10. Samaka Consults Uganda Limited

11. Sanit Hygiene – SMC Limited

Following the provision of technical assistance to manufacturers and free sanitizer and disinfectant standards by UNBS, the number of companies certified to manufacture sanitisers is expected to increase. UNBS will thus issue an updated list on a weekly basis.

The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body responsible for developing, promoting and enforcing standards in protection of public health and safety, and the environment against dangerous and sub-standard products.
