The Governor Bank of Uganda, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, is admitted at Nakasero hospital in Kampala battling health complications.

Sources have told this website that the governor has been in hospital for the last few days. Not much is known about his condition but we are told it’s critical.
Last evening, Dr. Adam Mugume, one of Ugandans finest economists, was appointed Acting Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda.

Mugume replaced Dr. Louis Kasekende whose tenure at the central Bank expired earlier this year.
An insider reveals Mugume will not only perform the deputy governor’s roles but governor Mutebile’s as well.

“He (Mutebile) is not expected in office anytime soon. His health is failing. There’s great worry,” the insider told us.
For years, Mutebile’s health has been a

subject of public debate with many worried he was nolonger performing his critical duties.

In 2016, the governor had to be flow to The United Kingdom for specialised medical attention after he collapsed at home.
A year earlier (2015) he was flown to South Africa for medication.
Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile born 71 years ago, is widely considered on of the greatest economists.
He was first appointed governor on 1 January 2001 and was re-appointed for a second five-year term on 1 January 2006. In December 2015, he was re-appointed for a fourth five-year term, effective 12 January 2016

He is the longest serving chief executive in the Bank of Uganda’s history. He is credited with many of the sound economic policies adopted by the Uganda government at the urging of the central bank during the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s.
