Seven people have been reported dead and 25 others injured in a motor accident that happened on Friday evening last week at Rwahi trading center in Ntungamo district. A bus that belongs to Kibungo Coaches with reg. number UAM 804 U according to an eye witness, he says the bus first rammed into a trailer number T00220A/C49809A before crushing down. The bus was heading to Kampala from Kabale while the trailer was transporting rawhides to Jinja from Burundi. The injured accident victims were later rushed to Kabale Referral hospital where they were admitted. Patrick Mungasa, the Rwizi Regional Traffic Officer blamed the accident on reckless driving saying that the bus driver was on a very high speed:
“You can see such a place is acorner, the driver is supposed to reduce the speed and this one is a trading center, there is even a signpost which means you are supposed to drive at a speed limit. But they didn’t even both thus killing such a number of people,” the traffic warden commented. The identities of both the dead and injured were not readily available by press time.
Better still, Jonan Mukundane, an eyewitness told our source that it made it difficult for the bus driver to avoid ramming into the trailer since it was inexorably parked in the road.
